Admittedly when one thinks of skiing and New England, Rhode Island is probably not the first state that comes to mind. A state without any major mountain ranges with so much of its land mass on or near an ocean, bay, or inlet, it is hard to imagine that there would an abundance of skiing opportunities.
Rhode Island Alpine / Downhill Ski Areas
While it is true that skiing is not a major industry in Rhode Island, there is one major ski area in the state – the Yawgoo Valley Ski Area in Exeter, RI. So if winter finds you in Rhode Island and you do not feel like taking the trek up north, head on over for a day of skiing, it’s not that far away from any point in the state.
Rhode Island Cross Country / Nordic Ski Areas
There are no cross country ski areas in Rhode Island. Cross country skiing is, however, offered in one of Rhode Island’s states parks (see: Cross Country Skiing in Rhode Island State Parks).
