With the exception of the beach, nothing says summer more than an amusement park. Full of thrills and fun for the whole family, summer is the season to visit one of New England’s many great amusement parks.

For most, the season runs roughly Memorial Day to Labor Day, with some open weekends in April and/or May, some extending the season out to Columbus day, and a few open weekends well into the fall. A couple of the Christmas oriented parks are open weekends in December.

The largest theme park in New England is Six Flag New England in Agawam, MA. The amusement park champion of New England is New Hampshire with five parks.

The oldest amusement park in New England is Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT that first opened in 1846! It is the oldest continuously operating theme park in North America. Lake Compounce also happens to be home to New England’s third oldest antique wooden carousel (1893).
