Although it is a small island, Nantucket has a rich Maritime history. So it should come as no surprise that there are three lighthouses on the island to warn of maritime hazards.
The oldest lighthouse on the Island of Nantucket, Brant Point Light, is also the second oldest lighthouse station in the United States dating from 1746. At 26 feet, Brant Point Light also happens to be New England’s shortest lighthouse. The award for the oldest original lighthouse building on the island goes to Sankaty Head Light whose original 1850 lighthouse structure still stands to this day. Sankaty Head Light is also the most remote lighthouse on the island and can only be reached over sand.
Two of the lighthouses on Nantucket blink white and the third blinks red.
