Fair season in Maine starts in July and runs through early October. In that period of time there are nearly 20 agricultural, county and country fairs across the state. Maine has a long history of agricultural fairs with no fewer than eight dating back to the 1800s. The oldest fair in the state is the Skowhegan State Fair (1818) followed by the Springfield Fair (1850), and the Fryeburg Fair (1851).
