Skiing Killington

Yes, Thanksgiving is not here yet, but several ski areas are getting a nice early jump on the 2013 / 2014 ski season. A combination of good conditions for snow making and some of the natural stuff thrown in by Mother Nature has allowed a several of New England ski areas to open.

  • Killington in Killington, Vermont is open and reporting 17 trails and 3 lifts in operation.
  • Woodbury in Woodbury, Connecticut is open reporting 2 trails and 3 lifts in operation.
  • Bretton Woods in Bretton Woods, NH is reporting that they will re-open on 11/16/2013.
  • Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH is reporting that they will re-open on 11/15/2013.
  • Okemo Mountain Resort in Ludlow, VT is reporting that they plan to open on 11/13/2013.
  • Sunday River in Newry, ME is reporting that they will re-open on 11/14/2013.

If you need more to get you int the mood for the upcoming ski season you may want to check out the Boston Ski and Snowboard Expo November 14 through November 17, 2013 at the Seaport World Trade Center.

New England Open for Snow Sports

Thanksgiving has come and gone and many are caught up in Black Friday madness. However, a different kind of madness is also starting to take hold in New England – skiing madness. With the Thanksgiving weekend upon us there are now 18 ski areas open throughout New England (CT – 1, MA – 1, ME – 2, NH – 5, & VT – 9). Many more plan to open next weekend.

So if you would rather get outdoors for a little sporting fun rather than follow the shop ’til you drop crowd, there is some good skiing available with more to come…

Be sure to check out our full New England Ski Report.

New England Ski Areas Opening Around Thanksgiving

Picture of SkiersYes, it is once again that time of year. Many parts of the six state region have already received snow. With the exception of the last few days it has also been cold enough for many of the ski areas to start making snow. Three ski areas are actually already open! Many more plan to open next week.

Currently all of the ski areas that are open or are planning to open are in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, although Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock, MA was open last weekend and then closed again on Monday. They are watching the weather to see when they can reopen.

New England Ski Update for the Weekend of 1/28/2012

It’s raining in southern New England. Up north it’s rain or a “wintery mix” (rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow). Conditions appear to have degraded since last weekend because of warm weather and continued lack of cooperation from Mother Nature. The forecast is for cold temperatures to return next week, at least at night, to allow more snowmaking.

Everybody needs to pray for two things:

  1. Consistent cold
  2. Snow (and lots of it…)

See here for our full report on the latest New England ski conditions.

New England Ski Conditions Continue to Improve

In a word – snow! Northern New England has seen a fair amount and it has even snowed in southern New England. With the new natural stuff ski conditions have improved everywhere. A few ski areas in Northern New England are almost fully open. More snow is predicted on Saturday so this will by far be the best ski weekend of the 2011/2012 ski season!
