During February school vacation, as part of the Newport Winter Festival, Ballard Park will host its 8th Annual Illuminated Garden February 21 through 23, 2013. The event is free and runs from 6 PM to 9 PM each day and features dazzling lighting exhibits in the trees, on a thirty foot rock wall, in the meadow, and around the vernal pond.

Ballard Park was created in 1990 when Carol C. Ballard donated a 13 acre parcel of land to the City of Newport. The park was cleaned up, and a trail system was created. The Illuminated Garden event in February kicks off a regular series of events at the park.

Rhode Island Wine Bars, and Enotecas

Picture of Bottles of WineIt started as a reaction to a Boston Globe article about the 10 Best Beer Bars in Boston. We decided to look at wine bars and then decided to expand it to all of Massachusetts (see “Massachusetts Wine Bars, Wine Cafes, and Enotecas“). We now realize that that is not good enough, there are, after all, five other states in New England. So we have decided to expand this into a series about wine bars and enotecas throughout New England.

Up today in this series is the state of Rhode Island. Here are the wine bars and enotecas that our research turned up in the Ocean State. Please let us know if we missed any…
