8th Annual Ballard Park Illuminated Garden
During February school vacation, as part of the Newport Winter Festival, Ballard Park will host its 8th Annual Illuminated Garden February 21 through 23, 2013. The event is free and runs from 6 PM to 9 PM each day and features dazzling lighting exhibits in the trees, on a thirty foot rock wall, in the meadow, and around the vernal pond.
Ballard Park was created in 1990 when Carol C. Ballard donated a 13 acre parcel of land to the City of Newport. The park was cleaned up, and a trail system was created. The Illuminated Garden event in February kicks off a regular series of events at the park.
