Winds of Music Passing On by the Chameleon Arts Ensemble

The Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston will continue its 2014/2015 season with their presentation of Winds of Music Passing On. The concert will feature:

  • Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major, Op. 47
  • Clara Schumann’s Drei Romanzen, Op. 22
  • Franz Schubert’s String Trio in B-flat Major, D. 951
  • Dan Welcher’s Florestan’s Falcon for flute and piano;
  • John Woolrich’s A Cabinet of Curiosities for oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, and piano

The concerts will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 8 PM at First Church in Boston, and Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 4 PM at the Goethe-Institut in Boston.

Tickets for this program exploring Robert Schumann’s influences and his influence on later generations can be ordered online at the Chameleon Arts Ensemble web site.

DaPonte String Quartet to Kick Off 23rd Season

Maine’s DaPonte String Quartet will open their 23rd season, the 2014 / 2015 season, October 17 to 26, 2014 with a presentation entitled “Walking in Beethoven’s Shadow“. The show will look at composers who were influenced by Beethoven including:

  • Brahms (Quartets No. 1 in C Minor)
  • Schumann (the A Major, Op. 41, No. 3)
  • Mendelssohn (the D Major, Op. 44, no. 1)

Performances will be held:

  • October 17, 2014 at 7:30 PM in Damariscotta at Lincoln Theater
  • October 18, 2014 at 7:30 PM in Portland at the Public Library
  • October 19, 2014 at 3:00 PM in Topsham at the Mid-Coast Presbyterian Church
  • October 25, 2014 at 7:30 PM in Boothbay Harbor at St. Columba’s Church
  • October 26, 2014 at 3:00 PM in Thomaston at St John’s Church

Opera in Jail? It is With the Boston Opera Collaborative

Last year it was “Opera Goes to Hell“. This year it’s “Opera Goes to Jail“. Leave it to the Boston Opera Collaborative to come up with an interesting theme right around Halloween. Join them this year as they present an evening of “opera’s seedy underbelly”. Included in the evening’s entertainment will be scenes and arias from Carmen, Peter Grimes, Don Pasquale, and more.

Opera Goes to Jail will be presented on November 2 and 4, 2012 at OBERON at 2 Arrow Street in Cambridge.

Longwood Symphony Orchestra at the DCR Hatch Shell, Boston MA

The Boston Landmarks Orchestra welcomes the Longwood Symphony Orchestra (LSO) and the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts to the DCR Hatch Shell in Boston on Wednesday August 15th, 2012. They will present an all-Mozart program conducted by Matthew Aucoin. The program consists of:

  • The Overture to Don Giovanni
  • Piano Concerto No. 21
  • Symphony No. 41 (“Jupiter”)

The LSO is composed primarily of health-care professionals who are also highly trained musicians. Joining the LSO will be young musicians from the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts.

The concert is from 7 to 9 PM at the DCR Hatch Shell. The rain location is the Back Bay Events Center at 180 Berkeley Street in Boston.

The concert is free.

The Tallis Scholars 23rd Annual Appearance with the Boston Early Music Festival

The Tallis Scholars from the UK will return for their 23rd annual appearance with the Boston Early Music Festival on Saturday, March 31, 2012. The program entitled The Field of the Cloth of Gold: Music of Jean Mouton and William Cornysh will feature:

Boston Early Music Festival – Early Handel Cantatas Performed by Tragicomedia

The Boston Early Music Festival is presenting a performance of early Handel cantatas performed by the musicians of Tragicomedia on Saturday, January 28, 2012. The performance will be held at 8 PM at the First Church in Cambridge, Congregational, at 11 Garden Street in Cambridge.

A Couple of Fun Events with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra

The Boston Landmarks Orchestra has a couple of fun events coming up in November:

  1. 11/17/2011 – Musical Mingle – A wonderful in support of Landmarks. Food and drinks will be served. The event will be held at the law offices of Goulston & Storrs Offices at 400 Atlantic Avenue in Boston.
  2. 11/20/2011 – Musical Brunch – Musical fun for the whole family featuring the Landmarks’ Brass section and a musical petting zoo to help cultivate children’s love for music. The event will be held at the Hampshire House at 84 Beacon Street in Boston.

Great Way to Get in the Mood for Summer

Here’s a great way to get into a summer vibe – how about catching the reggae sounds of Jamaica’s Wailers (as in Bob Marley and the Wailers)? The Wailers will be playing tonight at the Blue Ocean Music Hall in Salisbury Beach in Salisbury, MA. The doors open at 6:30 PM and the show starts at 8:00 PM.

This is one of two remaining New England dates for the Wailers on their current Uprising tour. The other New England performance is tomorrow, June 2, 2011 at Toad’s Place in New Haven, CT.
