Portsmouth Singer Songwriter Festival

Here is an event for music lovers to put on their spring calendars. Thursday through Saturday, April 16 to 18, 2015 The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH will host the Portsmouth Singer Songwriter Festival in their historic theater and loft. The festival also coincides with Portsmouth’s restaurant week.

Some of the artists who will be performing at the festival include: Citizen Cope & William Fitzsimmons, The Juliana Hatfield Three, and Buffalo Tom. These are just some of the 23 singer songwriters who will be performing over the weekend.

JazzFest Falmouth on Tap for the End of the Month

Mark you calendars for JazzFest Falmouth at the end of the month – September 27 through October 8, 2014 in Falmouth, MA.

Headlining JazzFest Falmouth this year will be Grammy Award winner Catherine Russell who will perform at the festival on Saturday, October 4, 2014. Ms. Russell is just one of many artists and activities that make this year’s JazzFest a not to miss event.

A special attraction that you will want to make it a point to catch is the Jazz Stroll on October 3, 2014 from 6 to 11 PM with over a dozen performers along Queen’s Buyway and Main Street.

Some Great Late Summer Festivals in Maine

Looking for some late summer festival fun? Well the State of Maine has some nice festivals on tap to help you bring the summer of 2014 home in a festive way.

  • American Folk Festival – The American Folk Festival brings a “celebration of multi-cultural traditional arts – music, dance, crafts, food and storytelling” to the Bangor waterfront August 22 through August 24, 2014. The festival features four stages of music and dance, craft demonstrations and exhibits, food, a marketplace, and much more. . .
  • Blistered FingersBlistered Fingers features great bluegrass music fun for the whole family. Come and listen to the world of banjos, fiddles, “and those high, lonesome harmonies” from August 20 to 23, 2014 in Litchfield, Maine.
  • Crown of Maine Balloon Fest – For a different type of festival check out the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest in Presque Isle from August 21 to 24, 2014. The festival will feature a dozen hot air balloons, a street fair, a craft fair, and more.

2014 Portland Chamber Music Festival

August 14, 2014 marks the beginning of the 21st season for the Portland Chamber Music Festival (PCMF). The PCMF is held at the Abromson Center on the Portland Campus of the University of Southern Maine. The festival has a well earned reputation for presenting outstanding performers and imaginative programming. This year’s concert schedule includes:

  • Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 8 PM: Opening Night presenting Stravinsky, Meltzer, and Tchaikovsky.
  • Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 8 PM: Harpist Bridget Kibbey and Friends
  • Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 8 PM: Honoring the Legacy of Cellist Marc Johnson
  • Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 8 PM: Season Finale with Host Suzanne Nance presenting works of Vivaldi, Josh Newton, and Brahms

The Portland Chamber Music Festival will also present its annual free Children’s Concert on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at noon.

Soulfest 2014 in Gilford, NH

Christian music fans take note. Soulfest will take up residence at Gunstock in Gilford, NH on August 7 through 9, 2014. Billed as New England’s premier Christian Music Festival, Soulfest will feature artists on five different stages including:

  • Switchfoot
  • Third Day
  • Kari Jobe
  • Natalie Grant
  • Mandisa
  • Britt Nocole
  • Crowder
  • Thousand Foot Crutch
  • . . . and many more . . .

Soulfest will also feature speakers and workshops. All told there are more than 125 artists and speakers at Soulfest.

Martha’s Vineyard Sound Festival

The Martha’s Vineyard Sound Festival, an international indie music festival, will take up residence for the first time in Waban Park in Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard on July 12, 2014 from 3 PM to 10 PM. For those of you familiar with OB Waban Park is right across the street from the Town Beach.

The lineup for the festival includes:

  • Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish

The Martha’s Vineyard Sound Festival will benefit Our Island Collaborative (OIC).

Fork in the Road Food Truck Festival – Boston, MA

Live Nation Entertainment, Food Truck Festivals of New England, and Harpoon Brewery are teaming up to bring the Fork in the Road Food Truck Festival to the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion on Saturday, June 14, 2014. This day-long event (noon to 10 PM) will feature live music, great food, and great beer.

Participating food trucks will include Bon Me, The Bacon Truck, Captain Marden’s Cod Squad, the Dining Car, The Taco Truck, Fugu, Stoked, and more. Harpoon Brewer will be serving up Harpoon IPA, Harpoon Summer, UFO White, and UFO Big Squeeze Shandy.

Admission to the event is $15 for adults. Children 12 and under are free.

Honk if You Like Good Music

Okay. It’s a corny title. But with the Honk Festival taking up residence in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville this weekend we could not resist. Billed as a Festival of Activist Street Bands, Honk gets underway this afternoon with “HONK! in the Neighborhoods” where bands will play in the communities of Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville. This will be followed by lantern making workshops and lantern parades in Davis Square in Somerville. The “official” kickoff is at Johnny D’s Nightclub in Davis Square in Somerville this evening.

Tomorrow, Saturday, you can see 25 street bands for free at venues throughout Davis Square from 12:30 PM to 9 PM. On Sunday there will be a Honk Parade from Davis Square to Harvard Square followed by the Harvard Square Oktoberfest and All Band Concert.

What a great way to spend Columbus Day Weekend!

Blacksmith Art & Music Festival in Fitchburg, MA

Blacksmith Art & Music Festival LogoThe art and trade of blacksmithing spans over 3,000 years. Throughout history blacksmiths have made everything from simple tools to armor for knights. You can see some of the region’s most talented blacksmiths display their metalworking skills at the 10th Blacksmith Art & Music Festival (formerly known as the Fitchburg Forge).

The festival will be held on Saturday September 28, 2013 from 10 AM to 4:30 PM in Riverfront Park at 40 Commercial Street in Fitchburg, MA. It is a collaboration between Achla Designs, Fitchburg Art Museum, City of Fitchburg, Fitchburg State University, Enterprise Bank, and the Central Massachusetts Art & Agriculture Coalition.

In addition to the blacksmiths, the Fitchburg Art Museum will be featuring a family arts area and their will be musical entertainment.
