Maple Sugar Madness at Prescott Farm in Laconia, NH

This is the first in a series of posts about the upcoming maple sugaring season. Yes, we are getting close to that time of year when daytime temperatures go above freezing and nighttime temp’s go below causing the maple sap to run and bringing on the annual onset of maple sugaring season.

Picture Inside a Maple Sugar HouseOur first event to highlight is Maple Sugar Madness at Prescott Farm in Laconia, NH. On Saturdays from March 1 through March 29, 2014 Prescott Farm will teach you all about the process of obtaining the sap and creating maple syrup. Some of the specific things that this program will teach you include:

  • Tree identification skills
  • How to find an appropriate tree using measuring tools
  • How to tap a tree using historical and modern tools
  • The history of maple sugaring
  • The science behind the boiling process

As part of the program there will be a 20 minute hike to their sugar house. The programs will be an hour and a half in duration and will commence at 10 AM, Noon, and 2 PM. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (603)366-5695(603)366-5695.

Winterfest at Prescott Farm in Laconia, NH

That’s exactly what our friends at Prescott Farm in Laconia, NH will be doing this coming Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 11 AM to 3 PM. Winter is officially upon us and Christmas is behind us as we head into the teeth of the winter of 2013/2014. Fret not, though. Embrace the season and take in some of these great winter sporting events across the region. What says winter more than dog sledding and Pond hockey? Okay, maybe skiing, but these are still great winter events:

Some Great Winter Programs at the Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center

Picture of  Moonlight Snowshoe HikeLooking for an excuse to get out into Mother Nature this winter. Well look no further than the Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center in Laconia, NH. Starting in January they have a series of great programs guaranteed to get you outdoors. Check these out:

  • Full Moon Snowshoe Walks – Full moon snowshoe walks will be held on January 16 and February 14, 2013.
  • Sledding Parties – Grab the kids and your sleds for sledding parties on January 4, 11, 18, 25, and February 1 and 8, 2013. The sledding parties are free.
  • Snowshoe Adventure Hikes – Snowshoe Adventure Hikes are great for all ages and will be held on January 4, 11, 18, 25, and February 1 and 8, 2013.
  • Snowshoe Fitness Walks – Vigorous snowshoe fitness walks for adults on January 4, 11, 18, 25, and February 1 and 8, 2013.

There are fees for the snowshoe walks. Reservations are required for all programs.

So no excuses. There is no reason not to get out this winter with great programs like these.

NASWA Resort’s 5th Annual Mardi Gras Labor Day Weekend Party
