Chameleon Presents Free Family Concert

Picture of the Chameleon Arts Ensemb;e's Instrument Petting ZooThe Chameleon Arts Ensemble will present a free family concert. The concert titled Tunes, Tales, and Tricksters will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2017 in Weld Hall at the Hyde Park Branch of the Boston Public Library.

Immediately following the performance there will be an instrument “Petting Zoo” in the Library’s outdoor Children’s Garden. Children will be allowed to handle and play the instruments with help from Chameleon’s musicians.

Chameleon Arts Ensemble Final Performance of the Season

Rafael Popper-Keizer on Cello

The Chameleon Arts Ensemble will present from the painter’s hand, its final performance of its 2016/2017 chamber music series, on May 20th and 21st, 2017. The program will present:

  • Robert Schuman’s Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, Op. 44
  • Laura Schwendinger’s The Artist’s Muse for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, and percussion – a world premier
  • Francis Poulenc’s Le travail du peintre (The Work of the Painter)Maurice Ravel’s Sonata for violin and cello
  • Morton Feldman’s For Franz Kline for soprano, violin, cello, horn, chimes, and piano

Both performances will be at the First Church Boston:

  • Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 8 PM
  • Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 4 PM

Sail Boston 2017

Tall Ship Europa


The tall ships are coming back to Boston this spring/early summer and a full schedule of events is on-tap to celebrate, including:

  • June 17, 2017 from 9 AM to 3 PM: Parade of Sail – Public viewing of the Grand Parade of Sail will be best from Castle Island, the Seaport District, the Boston Waterfront, East Boston, the North End and Charlestown.
  • June 17 to 21, 2017: Sail Boston Festival and Public Boarding of Ships
  • June 19, 2017: Crew & Cadet Street Parade at Downtown Crossing
  • June 22, 2017: Tall Ships Depart

All events are free and open to the public.

Sail Boston 2017 will be part of the transatlantic Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta. The Regatta will start in Royal Greenwich, UK and progress to Sines, Portugal, followed by Bermuda and then on to Boston, for Sail Boston 2017. From Boston, the ships will cruise north to Quebec City, Canada.

Chameleon Up Close Works for Piano 4-Hands

As part of its new recital series “Chameleon Up Close”, the Chameleon Arts Ensemble will present works for piano 4-hands on April 19, 2015 at 4 PM at the Goethe-Institut on Beacon Street in Boston. The program features pianists Gloria Chien and Elizabeth Schumann who will perform:

  • Claude Debussy, Six ├ępigraphes antiques, L. 131
  • Steven Stucky, Allegretto quasi Andantino (Schubert Dream)
  • Franz Schubert, Grand Rondo in A Major, Op. 107, D. 951
  • Igor Stravinsky, Le sacre du printemps for piano four-hands

“Chameleon Up Close” gives audiences the opportunity to experience Chameleon artists in a more intimate and informal setting.

Still Time to See A Christmas Celtic Sojourn

You have not waited too long (yet…). There are still six more performances of WGBH’s A Christmas Celtic Sojourn. Upcoming performances include:

  • December 17, 2014 at the Hanover Theatre in Worcester
  • December 19, 20 (2 performances), 21 (2 performances), 2014 at the Cutler Majestic Theatre at Emerson College in Boston

This is the 12th season of A Christmas Celtic Sojourn which features music, song and dance from Ireland. Don’t miss this wonderful holiday tradition.

Winds of Music Passing On by the Chameleon Arts Ensemble

The Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston will continue its 2014/2015 season with their presentation of Winds of Music Passing On. The concert will feature:

  • Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major, Op. 47
  • Clara Schumann’s Drei Romanzen, Op. 22
  • Franz Schubert’s String Trio in B-flat Major, D. 951
  • Dan Welcher’s Florestan’s Falcon for flute and piano;
  • John Woolrich’s A Cabinet of Curiosities for oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, and piano

The concerts will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 8 PM at First Church in Boston, and Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 4 PM at the Goethe-Institut in Boston.

Tickets for this program exploring Robert Schumann’s influences and his influence on later generations can be ordered online at the Chameleon Arts Ensemble web site.

Boston StrEATS Motors its Way to Franklin Square in Boston

Last night kicked off Boston StrEATS, a nighttime food truck festival in Franklin Square, a beautiful park on Washington Street in Boston’s South End. The festival will be a regular Thursday night occurrence from 5 PM to 9 PM featuring some of Boston’s best food trucks and live music. Time to put a recurring event into your calendar for Thursday nights!

Boston Seafood Festival This Weekend at the Boston Fish Pier

Quick, list ten iconic things about Boston. I’ll bet great seafood was one of them…

Well if you are in the Boston area and love seafood this is the weekend for you. Sunday marks the third annual Boston Seafood Festival on the Boston Fish Pier (the oldest working fish pier in the U.S. – celebrating its 100th anniversary this year).

This year’s Seafood Festival will feature:

  • The battle of the shuckers
  • Blessing of the fleet
  • Chef demos
  • Craft vendors
  • Educational events
  • A Fish cutting contest
  • Food vendors
  • A lobster bake tent
  • Seafood tastings

The Boston Seafood Festival will run Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 11 AM to 6 PM on the Boston Fish Pier at Northern Avenue.

Fork in the Road Food Truck Festival – Boston, MA

Live Nation Entertainment, Food Truck Festivals of New England, and Harpoon Brewery are teaming up to bring the Fork in the Road Food Truck Festival to the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion on Saturday, June 14, 2014. This day-long event (noon to 10 PM) will feature live music, great food, and great beer.

Participating food trucks will include Bon Me, The Bacon Truck, Captain Marden’s Cod Squad, the Dining Car, The Taco Truck, Fugu, Stoked, and more. Harpoon Brewer will be serving up Harpoon IPA, Harpoon Summer, UFO White, and UFO Big Squeeze Shandy.

Admission to the event is $15 for adults. Children 12 and under are free.

Late spring in Boston’s Seaport District, great music, great food, and great beer – does it really get any better than that?
