Beer in Maine

Picture of a Pint of BeerWhat started as one-upping MassVacation promoting Massachusetts breweries turned out to be so popular we decided to make this a series giving the same treatment to all of the New England States. You can see what is now the first installment in our beer around New England series here: Beer in Massachusetts.

Next up is the State of Maine. Maine takes their breweries very seriously. Maine has more breweries than Massachusetts, which is surprising because while not as big as Maine, Massachusetts has a much larger population. The only (non-scientific) conclusion we can draw from this is that they really like their beer in Maine.

Maine Breweries

Listed below are all of the breweries that we could find in the State of Maine:

Maine Brew Pubs

As popular as the breweries are the state’s brew pubs…

While not a brew pub, also worth mentioning for their slavish devotion to serving truly great and unique beer is the Novare Res Bier Cafe in Portland.

Maine Brew Festivals

In keeping with their love of beer, Maine plays host to several beer festivals throughout the year.

Maine Brewer’s Organizations

Maine also has a very active brewers guild.

Beer (Breweries and Microbreweries) in Massachusetts

Picture of a Schooner of BeerA recent release by Massvacation, Massachusetts’ Local Goods Inspire Fresh Journeys, provided the inspiration for this post. In it, among other things, they promote five microbreweries/brew pubs. This planted the seed of an idea. We had done a couple of very popular posts in the past about New England microbreweries (see Great New England Brews and More Great New England Beer and Ale).

So we decided to do Massvacation one better. Following you will find a listing of all the breweries, brew pubs, and major beer fests in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (at least all of them we could find). We even threw in a few brew on premise establishments.

Massachusetts Breweries

From big to small, there are breweries all over the state making an enormous variety of beer and ale. Most of these provide tours but you should check their website or call for tour specifics.

Massachusetts Brew Pubs

Rounding out the picture of great beer in Massachusetts are the state’s many great brew pubs:

Massachusetts Brew on Premise

Massachusetts Beer Festivals

Wine does not have a lock on festivals. Here are some of the major upcoming beer festivals in Massachusetts:

New England Brewfest, Lincoln, NH

Summer is here. Nothing better than tossing back a frosty cold brew on a warm summer day now is there? What better way to get into the mood for that than a Brewfest?

The New England Brewfest in Lincoln, New Hampshire will be bringing together breweries from around New England tomorrow, Saturday, June 25th at the Lincoln Village Shops in Lincoln, NH. The festival will include beer tasting (of course), live entertainment, craft beer education programs, food, and exhibits offering brew paraphernalia and souvenirs. Sounds like a great time for those of you into craft beer and micro-brews.
