The New England connection to the NCAA’s annual “March Madness”, the Division I basketball championship tournament, is a thin one. There are only two men’s teams from New England in the 2011 tournament – The Boston University (BU) Terriers and the University of Connecticut (UConn) Huskies.
- The first to play will be the Huskies who play Bucknell on Thursday, March 16.
- Boston University, a number 16 seed, will take on number 1 seed Kansas on Friday, March 17.
The women’s side is equally thin. Again only two teams made it – the UConn Huskies and the Hartford Hawks. The number 1 seed Huskies will take on the number 16 seed Hawks on Sunday, March 20 – which will leave only one New England team in the tournament. Not to worry though, the Huskies are the reigning powerhouse in college women’s basketball so they should be around for a while
