Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester to Close

After an 82 year run, certainly one of the most unique museums in New England and the only museum devoted to arms and armor in the Western Hemisphere, the Higgins Armory Museum is going to close at the end of 2014. Reported this morning in the Boston Globe (see: Higgins Armory Museum to close, By Geoff, March 8, 2013) and other news outlets (also see: Higgins Armory Museum to close after 82 years, Worcester Telegram, by Richard Duckett), the museum has decided to close its doors due to significant budget shortfalls. They will transfer their collection and endowment to the Worcester Art Museum who will renovate its current library to become the gallery for the Higgins collection.

It is sad that such an iconic institution will be closing, but very nice that the collection will remain in Worcester and available to the public for viewing.
