Candlelight Strolls as Part of a Vintage Christmas in Portsmouth, New Hampshire

For the holiday season we have already written about the the candlelight strolls at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, MA (see: Christmas Fun at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge, MA). Well, not to be outdone, the folks at the Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, NH will be putting on their own candlelight strolls as part of “Vintage Christmas in Portsmouth “.

The Strawbery Banke Museum will present their Candlelight Stroll on the weekend nights of December 1 and 2, 8 and 9, 14 and 15, 2012, from 5 to 9 PM to help visitors to relive the holidays through the centuries. Some of the highlights include:

  • The 1919 Russian Jewish kitchen of Mrs. Shapiro as she prepares the Hanukah celebration
  • An 18th century night watchman stopping to warm himself by a bonfire
  • A horse-drawn wagon that takes you along dirt lanes lined with flickering wood-and-glass candle lanterns

While the strolls are only on the weekends, the tiny white lights that outline the Strawbery Banke grounds and the electric candles in the windows will remain on each night throughout December. In addition, there will be Holiday House Tours December 26 through 30, 2012.

Tickets are necessary for the Candlelight Stroll.

  1. Thanks for letting folks know about Candlelight Stroll. Now in its 33rd year, we know it’s become a cherished family tradition — so we make it a little different each year. It looks ALOT like Christmas (and Hannukah and 18th century winter in New England) aorund here!
