The Portland Museum of Art will open the renovated Winslow Homer Studio for tours starting in September of 2012. The studio is where the iconic American artist Winslow Homer lived and painted many of his major works from 1883 until his death in 1910. The Portland Museum of Art purchased the studio in 2006.
The fall studio tour season will run from September 25 to December 2, 2012. Tours depart from the museum by van and last two and a half hours.
Coinciding with the fall tour season is the exhibition “Weatherbeaten: Winslow Homer and Maine“. It will run from September 22 to December 30, 2012. The exhibition will showcase 35 works (oil and watercolor) that were painted while Homer used the studio. Many of the pieces have not been seen in Maine for more than a generation.
You do not want to miss this wonderful opportunity to see these great American masterpieces.
