New England Drive-In Theaters

Cartoon Picture of a Drive-In TheaterWe got inspired by Mystic Country when they provided us with the information for our post “Going Retro in Mystic Country“. One thing that caught our eye was the reference to the Mansfield Drive-In Theater. I remember very fondly the old Natick Drive-In in Natick, MA that is now the site of a hotel, office building, and mall – not an improvement at all.

This got us to wondering how many of the old drive-ins are still left in New England. So we did a little research and what follows is a list of the remaining drive-in theaters in New England. It looks like the award for the oldest drive-in in New England goes to the Saco Drive-In (1939) in Saco, Maine.

  1. Thanks for the handy to share list of these cool spots- Mod B and Retro Roadhusband will be up in Mass soon doing some Retro Roadmapping – gonna see if the nieces and nephew want to go to the Drive In. Thanks for the kick in the pants!
