If you are a fan of canoeing or kayaking then New England is a great destination for you. But don’t just take our word for it. In 2011 Outdoor Magazine has recognized two New England paddling trails as the “best in the United States”.
The first is the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. Yes, we know, part of the trail is in New York and there is a little stretch in Canada – but the bulk of the trail’s 740 miles runs through Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Outdoor Magazine recognized the Northern Forest Canoe Trail as the best canoe trail in the United States.
The second trail is the Main Island Trail whose 375 miles snakes along the rocky coast of Maine. It was recognized by Outdoor Magazine as the nation’s best sea kayaking trail.
So paddle sports fans take note – New England is a prime destination to dip an oar.
By the way, if dry land is more to your liking, Outdoor Magazine also recognized Vermont’s Long Trail as the best trail to hike just once.
