Can-AM Crown International Sled Dog Races

Picture of Sled Dogs (Huskys)Yes, Alaska has the Iditarod, but did you know that the State of Maine has its own international sled dog races? Well it does! Based in Fort Kent, Maine, the Can-Am Crown is an annual series of 3 sled dog races:

  1. A 30-mile race (Pepsi Bottling Can-Am 30)
  2. A 60-mile race (In Memory of Willard Jalbert, Jr. Can-Am 60)
  3. A 250-mile race (the Irving Woodlands Can-Am 250). The 250-mile race is a qualifier for both the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest.

The races start from Main Street in Fort Kent, and finish at the Lonesome Pine ski lodge also in Fort Kent.

The Can-Am Crown was first run in 1993. The 2011 races with be the 19th. They will be held from March 5 to March 8, 2011.
