State Parks and Forests

  • Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, Lanesborough, Cheshire, Adams, MA – The Ashuwillticook Rail Trail is a former railroad corridor that has been converted into a 10-foot wide paved trail for passive recreation. This 11.2 mile trail is great for biking, running, and walking.
  • Bash Bish Falls State Park, Mt. Washington, MA – Bash Bish Falls State Park is home to Massachusetts’ highest single-drop waterfall. Recreation includes fishing, hiking, and hunting.
  • Beartown State Forest, Monterey, MA – Recreation includes boating (non-motorized), fishing, camping, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding trails, hunting, mountain biking, off-road vehicles, cross-country skiing, swimming, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.
  • C.M. Gardner State Park, Huntington, MA – Recreation includes canoeing, fishing, and walking trails.
  • Chester-Blandford State Forest, Chester, MA – Home to Sanderson Brook Falls. Recreation includes fishing, hiking, horseback riding trails, hunting, mountain biking, cross-country skiing.
  • Granville State Forest, Granville, MA – Recreation includes fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, and cross country skiing. There is a campsite that can accommodate RVs of up to 35 feet. There are no hookups or a waste station.
  • Jug End State Reservation and Wildlife Management Area, Egremont, MA – Recreation includes hiking (2 mile Jug End Loop Trail), and hunting.
  • Kenneth Dubuque Memorial State Forest, Hawley, MA – Recreation includes 35 miles of mixed use trails, canoeing, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, mountain biking, snowmobiling, and wilderness camping.
  • Monroe State Forest, Monroe, MA – Recreation includes fishing, hiking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling (if conditions permit).
  • Mount Everett State Reservation, Mt. Washington, MA – Recreation includes canoeing, hiking, and cross country skiing.
  • Mount Graylock State Reservation, Lanesborough, MA – Mount Greylock is the highest point in Massachusetts. Mount Greylock State Reservation has 70 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, back-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling which includes an 11.5 mile section of the Appalachian Trail. Primitive camping is available.
  • Mount Washington State Forest, Mt. Washington, MA – 30 miles of trails over rugged terrain and wilderness camping. Other recreation includes fishing, horseback riding, hunting, mountain biking, and cross country skiing.
  • Natural Bridge State Park, North Adams, MA – Home to a 550 million year old bedrock marble natural arch, the only one in North America. Also home to the only man-made white marble dam. Recreation includes fishing and walking trails.
  • Sandisfield State Forest (York Lake), Sandisfield, MA – Recreation includes fishing, boating (non-motorized), canoeing, hiking, hunting, cross-country skiing, and swimming (unguarded).
  • Savoy Mountain State Forest, Florida, MA – Recreation includes camping (45 campsites and 4 year-round cabins), hiking, boating (non-motorized), canoeing, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, nature and birding trails, cross-country skiing, and swimming.
  • Wahconah Falls State Park, Dalton, MA – Home to 40 foot Wahconah Falls. Recreation includes fishing and hiking.
