The Newport Harbor Light, also known as the Goat Island Light, is located on the northern tip of Goat Island near the Hyatt Regency Hotel. It was established to help guide ships into Newport’s protected harbor and protect them from a dangerous reef. The original lighthouse was replaced in 1842. The original was moved to Prudence Island in 1851 where it remains in operation to this day.
There are no other buildings with the lighthouse. Access to the lighthouse is through the Hyatt Regency Newport.
