The Theatre Workshop of Nantucket arose out of the informal Nantucket Players who existed to provide “home grown entertainment” to an island with little off-season entertainment and no television reception. The Theatre Workshop of Nantucket gave their first performance in 1956.
For many years the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket provided islanders with off-season entertainment. From 1968 to 1975 they added summer performances to their repertoire but had to abandon them when fire destroyed their theater. Summer performances resumed in 1983 in new venue and summer performances have been a staple ever since. In 2007 the Workshop lost their winter venue and now only provide summer performances until they can find a more stable theater situation.
The season for the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket currently runs from May through December and performances are held at the Centre Stage and Bennett Hall.
