White Mountain Trail, New Hampshire

Picture of Autum LeavesThe White Mountain Trail is one of three National Scenic Byways in New Hampshire designated by the America’s Byways program. The trail loops through the White Mountain National Forest from Conway in the east, north up through Glen, Bartlett, and on up to Bretton Woods, and then down 302 to North Woodstock. A full scenic drive circle can be made by combining a drive of the White Mountain Trail with the Kancamagus Scenic Byway / Kancamagus Highway. In addition to the breathtaking scenery, some attractions along the way include:

  • Clark’s Trading Post, Lincoln, NH
  • Whale’s Tale Water Park, Lincoln, NH (the park closes after Labor Day)
  • Franconia Notch State Park, Franconia/Lincoln, NH
  • The Cannon Mountain Tramway at Cannon Mountain Ski Area, Franconia, NH (open through mid-October)
  • Mt. Washington Cog Railway, Bretton Woods, NH
  • Mt. Washington Auto Road, Pinkham Notch, NH (closes mid to late October
  • Crawford Notch State Park, Harts Location, NH
  • Story Land, Glen, NH (Open weekends and holidays only in September and October. Closes after Columbus Day.)
  • Conway Scenic Railroad, North Conway, NH
