The first Martha’s Vineyard Livestock Show and Fair was held on held on October 26, 1858. The fair is run by the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society and is held in the third week of August every year. A long and cherished tradition on the Island, 2011 marked the 150th Martha’s Vineyard “Ag Fair” .

The fair features:

  • Competitions such as a horse pull, skillet toss, and woodsmen competition
  • Dog and livestock shows
  • Entertainment
  • Fiber-arts tent
  • Food
  • Midway (amusement rides and games)
  • Vendors

Picture of Martha's Vineyard Ag Fair RidesThe Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair is held on the fairgrounds in West Tisbury. It starts the Thursday of the third week of August and runs for four days. Hours of operation are 10 AM to 11:00 PM on Thursday through Saturday, and 10 AM to 7 PM on Sunday.

The fair is great fun for the entire family and many make it an annual tradition.

Be forewarned, however, that the week of the fair is also the week of Grand Illumination Night and the Oak Bluffs Fireworks making it a very busy week on Island. Plan ahead if you want to visit the Island this week.
