Black Dog Tall Ships got its start in 1964 when Captain Robert S. Douglas commissioned the construction of a topsail schooner based upon the design of an 1850 revenue cutter. Christened the Shenandoah, it is 108 feet long and has no auxiliary power.
The Alabama joined the Shenandoah as an active member of the fleet in the 1990s. Originally built in 1926, she served with the Mobile, Alabama Bar Pilots until 1966.
Black Dog Tall Ships offers:
- Day and sunset sales
- 5.5 day kid cruises where the kids become an active part of the crew helping to sail the ship
- Private charters
The Alabama and Shenandoah both have an overnight capacity of 30 passengers. For day and sunset sails the Alabama holds 40 and the Shenandoah holds 36.
