The Coast Guard Heritage Museum in Barnstable opened in May of 2005. The museum preserves the history of the United States Coast Guard and its predecessor organizations such as the Revenue Marine Service, the Revenue Cutter Service, and the U.S. Life Saving Service on Cape Cod.
Exhibits include displays of:
- The Coast Guard Service
- The Lifesaving Service
- The Lighthouse Service
- The Lightship Service
- The Revenue Cutter Service
In addition, the property is also home to the Village Smithy, a working blacksmith shop, and “The Oldest Wooden Jail in America” that was relocated to the site from another site.
