Summer College Baseball – Cape Cod Baseball League, Massachusetts

Family Friendly GraphicFounded in 1885, the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL), is an amateur summer college baseball league based on Cape Cod. The league is a wooden bat league that attracts the finest collegiate talent from around the country.

A surprisingly large percentage of Major League Baseball players played in the CCBL at some time. Some notable CCBL alumni include Jacoby Ellsbury, Carlton Fisk, Nomar Garciaparra, Evan Longoria, Thruman Munson, Jason Varitek, Mo Vaughn, and Barry Zito.

The league fields 10 teams around the Cape:

  1. Bourne Braves
  2. Brewster Whitecaps
  3. Chatham Anglers
  4. Cotuit Kettleers
  5. Falmouth Commodores
  6. Harwich Mariners
  7. Hyannis Harbor Hawks
  8. Orleans Firebirds
  9. Wareham Gatemen
  10. Yarmouth-Dennis (Y-D) Red Sox

All of the team stadiums are within an hour of each other and close to all of the other wonderful attractions that Cape Cod has to offer. All Cape Cod games are free, although the teams may “pass the hat” asking for a donation to help fund the team. Games are played in June and July with the playoffs happening in early August.

The CCBL is a member of the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball (NACSB).

The Cape Cod Baseball League has a Hall of Fame that is located at the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum.
