Description
The Bigrock Ski Area has been serving Maine since 1960. This family friendly ski park has 28 trails and 5 lifts. Bigrock has a newly renovated lodge where guests can rest between runs and enjoy warm food and good company.
Bigrock is open from Wednesday through Sunday with night skiing available Wednesday through Friday.
In the year 2000, ownership of Bigrock was taken over by the Maine Winter Sports Center. Since the take over a snow tubing park and cross country skiing / snow shoe trail have been added to the grounds.
Mars Hill, the town where Bigrock is located, is also famous for being the home of Maine’s original wind farm.
Rentals
Visitors who do not have their own skiing equipment can rent equipment onsite. Guests can obtain an entire rental package or rent items such as poles and boots individually. Snowboarding packages are also available. Group rental rates are available by calling Bigrock to make a reservation.
Lessons
Skiing lessons take place on weekends at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. During the week, lessons can be booked at various times by appointment only. Both group and private lessons are available. Lessons can be purchased in blocks of three to five classes for people staying in the area for multiple days.
Racing
Racing is offered in February each year. Interested parties should contact Bigrock directly for exact rules and dates as these may change each season.
Lift Tickets
Weekday, half day and weekend tickets can be purchased to use the ski lifts. Adults ages 18 to 64 pay one price while lower pricing applies to seniors and children. Frequent guests can buy a season pass to use the lifts an unlimited amount for the entire ski season. Passes can be purchased individually or in a family pack. Use of the snow tube park requires a separate admission payment.
Amenities
Out of town guests can find all the comforts of home with one of Bigrock’s ski and stay packages offered in conjunction with several local hotels and lodges. Guests may choose to stay at the Hampton Inn. This hotel is located close to the mountain and the package includes two lift tickets and two meal cards that can be used at Bigrock. The Presque Isle Inn is another popular place to stay in the area. This relatively new facility has onsite dining, a fitness center and a nightclub. Complimentary lift tickets and meal cards will also be issued when booking the Presque Isle package.
