The Great New England Air Show is an amazing, heart-pounding, breath-taking event nobody would want to miss! This incredible event takes place in Chicopee at the Westover Air Reserve Base. The previous Great New England Air Show occurred in August 2008; the next one is on the schedule for August 4th and 5th, 2012, at the Westover Air Reserve Base (see 2012 Great New England Air Show This Weekend in Chicopee, MA). The Great New England Air Show – America’s northeastern version of this fantastic display that takes place at locations around the world – occurs less than 10 miles outside of Springfield, Massachusetts, conveniently located in the neighboring city of Chicopee. Visitors of all ages to the Great New England Air Show will enjoy a thrilling experience they will never forget – and likely plan on attending the next Air Show. There are no admission or parking charges at Air Show events. Gates typically open at 8am, with the Air Show starting at 9am.
Attendees of The Great New England Air Show will gasp in amazement at the antics of featured performers including the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, which can fly at speeds of 1500 mph, as well as the U.S. Army Parachute Team known as the “Golden Knights,” who perform death-defying aerial skydiving acts.
In addition to the high-flying events, visitors of all ages can enjoy events and attractions on the ground, including viewing various types of military, civilian, and antique planes on display. People may even have the opportunity to walk through the enormous cargo bay area of a C-17. Of course, concession stands provide all kinds of food and treats, while vendors offer memorabilia for the day’s event.
