The 14,800 seat DCU Center, previously known as the Centrum, is an indoor arena and convention center that rivals any of the best arenas of the United States. Its’ modern facilities have been regularly upgraded and expanded since its opening in 1982.
In addition to hosting sporting events, family shows, and conventions, it has become one of the Commonwealths’ go to places for music shows and concerts. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and native rock band Aerosmith has performed there thirteen times including some New Years Eve shows. Other prominent performers have included Elton John, the rock band Phish, Neil Diamond, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Madonna and Hilary Duff.
The DCU Center is also home to the Worcester Sharks, Worcester’s AHL professional hockey team.
Located with easy access in downtown Worcester and a relatively short drive from Boston, people travel from as far away as New York to enjoy the fantastic shows and the clean, well maintained facilities. As a concert hall it’s not huge, but intimate without feeling crowded. . The layout is 3-tier: floor, mezzanine, and upper, and has multiple entrances to prevent bottleneck allowing people to get in and out quickly.
